Visitor Services Associate
Part-Time
The Niantic Children’s Museum is seeking a Visitor Services Associate. The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for assisting the Visitor Services Coordinator in tending to visitor needs and all aspects of membership maintenance and growth. The Associate is responsible for museum memberships, maintaining the museum’s inventory, and managing volunteers. They also process donations, obtain data for reporting, and help with opening and closing procedures.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Printing membership cards and renewal letters
- Processing volunteer applications and coordinating jobs
- Tracking incoming donations and mailing outgoing donations
- Assisting with animal care and museum upkeep
- Updating forms, letters, and templates as needed
- Maintaining Ricoh copier and updating Document Server
- Assisting the front desk whenever needed
- Other duties to be assigned by the Visitor Services Coordinator or Education Coordinator

Weekend Visitor Services Associate
Sunday & Saturday Hours
The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for assisting the Visitor Services Manager in attending to visitor services needs and all aspects of membership maintenance and growth. Sundays are required for this position with additional Saturday hours available, including some weekend evenings. Occasional weekday hours on an as needed basis. Total number of hours per weekend may vary, but 6 hours minimum on Sundays is available.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Greeting and welcoming each guest
- Answering questions
- Answering telephone
- Selling items from Museum Store
- Cashing out drawer at the end of each day
- Taking birthday party/group reservations
- Enrolling children in Museum programs
- Recording all daily information and coupon use
- Hosting birthday parties
- Birthday party set-up and clean-up
- Maintaining exhibit areas, including light cleaning
- Assisting with animal care
- Other duties or responsibilities as deemed necessary by the
- Executive Director and Visitor Services Manager.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are:
- 1-3 years in hospitality, retail or museum experience preferred.
- Computer skills: FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Candidates must be 21 years old and are required to pass a background check and provide proof of full COVID-19 Vaccination.
- Must be able to bend and stand for long periods of time and lift up to 40 lbs.
- All staff and visitors are required to wear masks inside the Museum building. All Staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Museum Educator
Part-Time
WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME. This is a part-time position beginning in November. Starting salary $14/hour.
Niantic Children’s Museum has an opening for a part-time Museum Educator. Applicants should have a college degree and teaching experience working with toddlers, preschool and/or elementary-aged children, preferably in a classroom or museum setting. Training in classroom management and science a plus.Position involves visiting Preschools, Daycares and Elementary Schools as part of our Outreach and After-school Programming, teaching occasional onsite programs and weekend birthday party programming, and assisting Visitor Services as floor staff.Also looking for a candidate with a dynamic teaching style to engage students remotely as needed in the 2021-22 school year. Knowledge of STARLAB Portable Planetariums or willingness to learn STARLAB programming a plus.Proven staff have the possibility of expanding hours to Front Desk openings.
Requirements
- Candidates must be 21+ years old and are required to pass a background check and provide proof of full COVID vaccination.
- Applicants must be available to work all day Tuesdays and potentially work all day any day of the week, including some Saturdays and Sundays for Birthday Parties.
- They must have a flexible schedule as number of work hours and days of the week vary based on program demand.
- MUST have own transportation, be able to lift 40 pounds, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
