Part-Time Museum Educator

CMSECT has a need for a Part-time Educator!

Enrichment Educator Position – Short-term:  This is a part-time position opening in April and ending in June as an educator in our enrichment programming with the Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School in New London.  Applicants should have a college degree and teaching experience working with older elementary aged children, preferably in a classroom setting.  Training in classroom management and science a plus.  This position has set hours in the early morning of every day that New London schools are in session, although planning hours are flexible.  A minimum of 2.5 hours per morning required.  This is a short-term position ending when school ends in June.  However, the position could be extended past June with other outreach or onsite programming during the summer and next academic year.  Must have own transportation, be able to lift 50 pounds, and be able to stand for long periods of time.

Part-time Visitor Services Associate

The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for assisting the Visitor Services Coordinator in attending to visitor needs and all aspects of membership maintenance and growth. The schedule for this position will be Friday, Saturday, Sundays with some Mondays as needed. Must be friendly and comfortable working with youngsters, both 2-legged and 4-legged!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to —

Front Desk responsibilities including:

  • Greeting and welcoming each guest
  • Answering guest questions
  • Selling items from Museum Store
  • Cashing out drawer at the end of each day

Organizing all aspects of reservation systems including:

  • Holding dates for prospective birthday parties using the form provided
  • Holding dates for prospective group reservations
  • Enrolling children in programs
  • Recording all daily information and coupon use.

Daily maintaining exhibit areas, birthday party set-up and clean-up and monitoring weekend volunteers.

Other duties or responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Visitor Services Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 -3 years in hospitality, retail or museum experience preferred.
  • Computer skills – FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Candidates are required to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to bend and stand for long periods of time and lift up to 40 pounds.
