Internship Opportunities


The Museum offers internships throughout various departments. Supervised by department heads with years of experience, internships are a great way to build a resume, learn by doing, or to explore a new career. A progressive course of increased work responsibility begins with a week of job shadowing all departments. Interested candidates will have completed at least one year of college level study. All internships at Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut are unpaid and interns are expected to work a set schedule 15 – 20 hours a week. Applications are accepted for summer internships between February 1 and March 30. Fall interns will work for 10 weeks, approximately June 1 to August 15. Interviews are held in person, over the phone, or via Skype.

Marketing – Monday 11-5, Tuesday 9-2, Wedesday 9-2. (Total: 16hrs)
Research innovative ways to reach varying target audiences, write press releases, update the Museum’s profile on other travel websites, and other related activities (coupon report). Reports to the Marketing Coordinator. Download Internship Application.

Education – Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9-3. (Total:18hrs)
Assist Museum educators in the classroom with toddler, baby, and preschool classes. May assist in offsite programs. Develop and facilitate creative drop-in activities that will run each afternoon. Reports to the Education Coordinator. Download Internship Application.

Administrative – Thursday 9-2, Friday 9-2, Saturday 9-2.(Total: 15hrs)
Work on developing new projects that serve the community and patrons. Plot our visitors’ attendance on a statewide map, research income levels by town, and help coordinate and write a volunteer handbook. Must be fluent in Excel. Reports to the Executive Director. Download Internship Application.

Visitor Services – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:45-1:45 (Total: 20hrs)
Be the face of the Museum and greet our guests. Scheduled during the busiest times of day, you will answer phones, guide our visitors to/throught our educational exhibits, explain memberships levels and sell store items. In short, you will welcome and meet the needs of each guest, young and old! Reports to Visitor Services Coordinator. Download Internship Application.

Exhibit – Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, 8:45-2:45 (Total 18)
While many folk relax on Sunday mornings, the Museum is closed so messy work can be accomplished. Other days might be spent researching, building, designing, cleaning, or repairing components. Reports to Director of Operations. Download Internship Application.

Graphic Design – Monday 2-5:30, Tuesday 9-3, Thursday 9-3 (Total: 15.5))
Visually representing the Museum is important and difficult! Help us get a jump-start on holiday store promotions, fall flyers and our quarterly newsletter.  Provide input on web design and update social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
